As a child I remember having a hard time sleeping on Christmas Eve. I was so excited about the gifts and celebration that my mind would not relax. I would be up at the break of dawn, scoping out the situation under the tree, but it wasn’t until 6 am that I was allowed to wake up the rest of the house...that time of waiting seemed an eternity. Anticipation is part of the Advent Season.
Before Jesus was born, people were waiting for the Messiah, the Chosen One, who would free them from oppression, who would set up a new order. It must have felt like an eternity under the oppressive rule of the Romans. What is it that you are waiting for this season? What do you long to be free of? Do you anticipate the "baby king", the one who was born in a stable and announced to the outcasts? My prayer is that we will all be in anticipation of the Kingdom of God and that we will recognise the King.
